Accessible Business Initiative

The increasing number of people with disabilities is creating significant new markets for information, services and facilities that can be accessed by them and their carers.

The You’re Welcome WA Access Initiative was developed by the Disability Services Commission, together with the City of Perth to assist the inclusion of people with disabilities in community life by:

  • providing detailed information about the accessibility of facilities and services on the You’re Welcome website (www.accesswa.com.au); and
  • encouraging businesses and community organisations to make their services and facilities more accessible.

Local Governments are the main implementation partners for the programme. The City of Perth has posted some 260 reports on the website since its inception. These include reports on hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, cultural facilities, car parks and toilets. The site has detailed factual information that can be searched by type or location. Once a business has been assessed they are able to have an access report on their business published on the website..

In addition a range of practical written information sheets have been developed to assist businesses understand and meet access needs of people with disabilities. These can be used to assist business to make their services more accessible, expanding their customer base into this growing market.

If you would like more information on the programme in the City of Perth please email the City of Perth – Sustainable City Development Unit at info.city@cityofperth.wa.gov.au or on +61 8 9461 3136.
